My first “successful” drawing of a face was of a woman. It’s the first drawing in this gallery. When I started this journey at 45, I had recently retired from my career as a fashion designer and salesman. So with very little confidence and less ability, I started painting flowers and abstracts, followed by little fashion pieces. I have included a few here. Then I started my drawing practice to become a better painter. And after several attempts I drew a recognizable human woman’s face. I never have felt confident that I can draw women well, though. I have focused on drawing and painting men, but some of these are among my personal favorites.

I have included drawings, paintings, and digital art. And these are from the early 200s when I dabbled in photography to the present day. My very favorite of these is an oil pastel I did of my mom. She’s 27 in the photo. She had just had me and she’s contemplative, looking down…

I have also added some incredibly androgynous pieces. They were initially mistakes - I had been drawing men so much that when I tried to draw women, they came out looking like a combination of the sexes.. I love them and I think they are very interesting and beautiful.
